Great pictures.

Picture 1 - just look at the colour of the Liver Buildings, and on the left is the Clubship Landfall - I had a few drunken stag nights in there.

I wish I was a caterpillar
Life would be such a farce
I'd climb up all the shrubs and trees
And slide down on my hands and knees

Got to add my thanks for them great pics!

Liverpool at her best must have been 50's 60's, the Mersey was busy with ships coming and going, tugs dodging in and out, the ferries usually chocker too,

great days!!

Thanks all for the nice comments - glad my grainy pics went down well. Here's some Black & White from the old Speke Airport:-

2nd Jan 1964: British Eagle's Britannia 312 "Endeavour", just in from Heathrow. The beautiful Bristol Britannia was nicknamed "the Whispering Giant". If you asked nicely you could go on board and have a look around - try doing that nowadays!
Posted Image

2nd May 1966: the Spectators' Balcony at Speke: no terrorists or armed cops, just a little man with a ticket machine, and for a tanner (that's 2.5 pence in today's rubbish) you could spend the day up on the terraces
Posted Image

7th May 1966: British Eagle's BAC One-Eleven "Swift", on the day Speke's new runway was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh

Springy
Thank you for the trip down memory lane
l used to sit on the balcony at Liverpool Airport. When l was a kid, never payed though
Only a few passenger planes landed in them days
Go around the corner to the Fire Station, and see all the fire engines, brasses and silver on these machines polished to a high shine
Photo at the Dock Road by the Now Pump House
There was an after hour club on the other side of the Dock Road that we frerquented, Dare l say OFTEN
Again thank you

All of the pictures that Springy has posted here have been fantastic. :D I've spent ages looking at them all and don't they all look better than the reality we are faced with now?
Fashion might have changed over the years but don't the people all look smartly dressed? There is almost no traffic on the roads, unless someone got up at daft o'clock in the morning to take the pics. The buildings might look "dirty" but it all looks so clean and natural. One thing that stands out above everything for me is I can almost feel a sense of friendliness from the pics which is something that is very sadly lacking in todays reality. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Springy :good:

Thanks all for your great comments on my old Instamatic snaps, it's nice to think someone else wants to use them as well. Pity the quality wasn't better! I think the lack of traffic was partly due to my choosing a quiet Sunday to go walkabout round the Pierhead.
I still miss the whole atmosphere and simple freedoms of the 60's, and all the places that have been destroyed and modernized. I must do some more scans after the festive season, and add some more postcards,

Merry Christmas

Thanks to all those who'se images I "nicked" for the following page on my site:

MERSEYSIDE

If anyone has anymore of Liverpool of the sixties, especially of the river, docks and shipping I would be eternally grateful. Please pm me for my snail mail address (all will be returned) or my email address which can handle large downloads of scanned images. I only wish, when I worked on the Pier Head in 64-65 that I had had a camera them, oh what history I missed recording. I can recall going to work on the Bhead ferry, weaving in and out of the ships in the river!
