I used to live in irene road, and still visit my father there. My memories of forties childhood in childwall are of the area we called the wildfields in Childwall abbey road, the cinder lane called (i think) dangerfield road, where we used to practice skidding on our bikes (after liverpool speedway-the chads).Childwall park avenue was also a pretty wild place, with just a few houses in the late forties
I was in the Lifeboys, then the boys Brigade,at childwall church. in fact both my brothers, and my sister,as well as me ,were married at Childwall church (incidentally, the curate of about 1950,Ken Pillar, went on to be Bishop of hertfordshire, and is now in high office in Sheffield).
At the top of irene road was the military hostpital, and all the patients (I seem to remember alot of amputees)were in blue pyjamas.
I hope this is the sort of information you are after. Please contact me directly royston@(nospam)aol.com :chatter: if you have any specific ideas of what you want,or if you just want to chat
