Thanks for the photos GerardF - I'll be taking the grandkids but I won't be going on them either!!!!

There is no greater pleasure one can have than to journey to the past and contemplate on the good things one finds there. DWW

We must have some sort of an eerie bond Kay cos when I was looking at the pics I was thinking of how the fairgrounds used to smell.
There was always the fumes from the engine powered generators.I suppose that's what you mean about the oil smell.

And don't forget the smell of the candyfloss. :dribble:

Yes exactly! I was mostly remembering the travelling fairs that used to set up on waste ground (perhaps the old bombed sites). I know that if I was to smell that same smell today I would be immediately transported!!!

Aussie/Knotty Ash

Great pics Gerard - and fun fairs bring back memories. There used to be one at the top of Kingsheath Avenue, Knotty Ash - and I remember the oily smell too. Used to have just enough money for the candy floss, a ride on the bobby horses (carousel) and a few goes on the Roll-a-Penny stall. I used to love the sound of the tinny music they played on the carousel. Loved New Brighton fairground too - used to go on the Octopus so many times I got a nosebleed after it. Good fun.
